I'm trying to get X going.
My computer has the WD90C24A video controller.
I found that haary had created an xf336-server package. That version of XF86 had supported that chip, so I decided to try first to use it.
I installed the package.
I ran xf86config and that created an XF86Config file in /etc.
I created the symlink mentioned in haary's post about the package.
Then I ran startx.
It kept complaining about my XF86Config file in different respects. Some of those complaints I was able to overcome by editing my XF86Config file.
I had two models for that file that I'd found on the web.
One was here: http://peipa.essex.acv.uk/tp-linux/tp-linux.html. In that document was what was said to be an XF86Config file for the very model of computer I've got, the IBM ThinkPad 370C. However, it didn't say what version of XF86 it was using
The other was here: http://tuxmobil.org/compaq_lte475cx_en.html. It involved a different brand of computer, but the same chip and was said to be an XF86Config file for XF86 version 3.3.6.
Both of my models gave as their driver name "svga", but, when I use that in my file, I get "Unknown device section keyword".
I don't understand enough about this to know what to try next in the XF86Config file.
I'd be grateful for any clues.
Thank you,
Leslie
